Indispensable for testing wired home networks and patch cables
I'm installing three ethernet cables (two CAT8, one CAT 7) on 20 metre runs where the majority of the run is concealed and, one of the cables as a shielded female to female coupler under the floor. This tester gave me the confidence that I could proceed with the next stage of installation and, it allows me to identify the cables (same sheath colour) between ground and first floor. Indespensible and, great value for money!Easy to use tester for RJ45 and RJ11 terminated cables. It also tests the screen earthing of STP cables. Great for installing and testing a wired home network. It uses a 9 volt battery that is not supplied.

Simple, cheap, effective
It arrived. I put a 9v battery in. Plugged a cat 6 cable to test. It cycled through the lights. Plugged another in, it cycled through again.Plugged one end into the pan that wasn't working and the other into the patch panel. It identified orange white as not working. I checked and it hadn't been punched down correctly, despite looking good visually. Punched it down. Retested. Job done.2 days to wait for it, 5 minutes to fix the problem. If it is durable it is well worthy of.its stars. If it doesn't last I'll update.

Very handly little gadget
This is such a useful little gadget, if you do any kind of wired networking work at home even if its just the odd one off thing I highly reccomend this product. It will save potentially hours of frustrations and hair pulling if something is wired wrongly. The quality is good enough for its purpose and is decent anyway.

Does the job it was intended for.
Quick and easy to use. Found a problem in my first attempt at terminating my own ethernet cables when re-siting a wireless router more centrally in the house, having bought a dedicated vdsl modem. Also helps check the integrity and pass-through vs. cross over wiring of a nest of old ethernet cables I've accumulated over the years.

Does the job
This is good for testing ethernet cables. I would give more stars if the LEDs were a bit brighter on the base unit, and if the slow option were a little slower.

Saved me a lot of time
Bought this as I was trying to sort out an inherited network mess. Functionally it allows you to check the continuity and the wiring scheme of the cables of plugs and sockets. It helped me find incorrectly wired plugs, poor connections and identifying where the cables go around the building.Although it would not have enough features for a professional user it is a perfect tool for occasional amateur use.
