Soundmaster SCD7900 - Versatlie and Good Value
I have just received this and I have to say I was very pleased with it. I wanted something compact with DAB & FM radio, CD player and an AUX jack input. I don’t have any tapes so have not tested that for this review.UsageFirst thing is the build. Bear in mind that it is constructed from plastic, so suitable for use around the home, caravan, boat, holiday let, etc. rather than rugged outdoor use. Having said that it is well constructed (as you’d expect from a German company) none of the buttons rattle, all have good feedback and everything fits together well. It’s pretty easy to set up, though I would recommend reading the manual first to get an idea of how all the controls work as it’s not always obvious just looking at the front panel.Tuning both DAB and FM was dead simple and worked first time perfectly.CD played back perfectly, it’s a manual top loader so be careful to hold CD’s by the edge and not to flex them.Sound QualityNow on to the sound, to put this into context I am a little bit of an audiophile, I normally listen to a Plenue 1 DAP with high end Sennheiser or Shure headphones (or Bose for travel) so comparing a more domestic product is hardly fair.Having said that, I was pleasantly surprised at the sound quality bearing in mind that speaker size is only around 10cm (4 inches). The mid-range and high notes sound clear and precise however the base is a little lacking due to the speaker size. I personally do not like heavy bass (particularly the awful “thump-thump” you get with some players) but in balance it does give richness particularly if you listen to spoken radio or audio books. So for light Classical music it’s pretty spot on but if you’re looking for 100W per channel to blast out Black Sabbath then this isn’t for you.For general use it’s more than adequate with a neutral tone.I did also try with two sets of headphones (Bose QuietComfort 25 and Shure SRH1540) and the sound was transformed. The Bose gave a slight background hum (a common complaint depending on the source) but the Shure’s were dead silent and I have to say that I was quite impressed for a player at this price point at how good it sounded.ConclusionA versatile, light and highly portable player that caters for a number of different formats. Having a small form factor I don’t believe the manufacturers could do much more with the speakers due to the form size but the sound is very good for day to day use and if you do want something to increase the audio range for more quality listening then just plug in some headphones. All in all I’m extremely pleased and would recommend it

Soundmaster SCD7900
The unit does everything that it should, it looks better than the Amazon pictures. The sound quality is above average for a unit of this size. The instruction booklet was a little difficult to follow for the set up procedures etc. Although this is a product review, should you decide to purchase please look at BuyCleverStuff - their delivery service is the best I have ever experienced.

Just what I was looking for
I work from home and often switch between music and talk radio according to my mood. I have music on cassettes, CDs and MP3 players, and the SCD7900 enables me to switch between media according to what i want to hear. The digital radio works fine and tuned into the available stations on the first try, and the FM tuner is also fine. The sound quality is great for everyday use - this isn't high spec hifi, but that's not what you'd expect from a boombox-style player at this price. Great value and highly recommended.

Over complicated
After the rave reviews I am a little disappointed with this radio, also the manual doesn't explain in detail enough, I had to get help setting it up. Everything is now working except for FM radio which just crackles. The auto scan on digital hasn't picked up any BBC radio stations other than a couple of Welsh ones which is no good to me and I can't get them on FM because of the noise. It's over complicated and the best thing I can say about it is the sound is good.

Good value and easy to use
Fed up of crackling FM reception and with a broken CD player on my old ‘boombox’ I treated myself to this model and am very pleased with the result. Having finally found the button on the side to switch from radio to CD and tape it is easy to set up and to switch through radio channels by turning the dial on the top. One happy customer!
