Some reviews say this has an included staple remover “at the back.”—-? I don’t see anything that could be used to remove staples, what am I missing?

I agree....I found nothing that could remove staples.

How do I open it for tacting.

To open for tacking, hold bottom with one hand and pull top black piece and staples holder and pull. Also, this stapler has a push up button under the plate the staples hit when using. Push it up and you can turn the plate to either staple or pin documents.
