Accurate measurement
The meter works fine. I tested the draw using a known factor such as a 75 watt light bulb and it measured exactly the correct wattage. We were able to test a total load of a standard computer setup in the office to determine if our new power outlets would be sufficient.

Its features and price are incredible
I have had a Kill-A-Watt meter for many years, but now I can't find it. So I started looking for a new one. The Kill-A-Watt brand is now quite expensive. After considering the alternatives, I ordered the HBN Watt Meter, which features nine display modes. I was primarily interested in learning how much electricity various appliances consume. This meter allows you to set the price of your electricity and measure over time to see what you pay for each time period (such as an hour) of use.It also measures power factor. The power factor in electrical systems is a measure of how efficiently incoming electrical power is used, defined as the ratio of real power (used for actual work, measured in kilowatts) to apparent power (total supplied, measured in kilovolt-amperes) in an AC circuit. A high power factor (close to 1) means most of the power is being effectively used for work, with minimal losses. A low power factor means that more current is required for the same amount of work, resulting in energy losses, wasted capacity, and typically higher utility costs, especially for industrial customers.Plus, the device costs less than the alternative watt meters.Watts not to like (pun intended).

Backlight not very effective in bright environments.
2025-07-27. Watt meter plug by HBN. Backlight. Electricity usage monitor. Electricity usage tester. 9 display modes. Voltage. Amps. Wattage. This is advertised as an electricity usage monitor, but I can't see any real practical use for that purpose. So you know how much electricity your appliances are using, and you can even calculate the costs, now what? I suppose if you're on a really tight budget, you can cut off using electricity, but rather than cutoff something we essentially need for sustenance, I'd recommend you trim the budget elsewhere, carpool and share the costs of fuel, or eat out less, but don't cut off your power. Of course this doesn't mean you should leave all your lights on all the time, save where you can. If you're not in that room, turn off the lights, set your TV on a timer in case you fall asleep, or change your bulbs to energy efficient LED ones.So why did I order this? Well, I use it to test the capability of other devices. I already own a USB A/C wall block that is supposed to be capable of delivering "Fast Charging" which is technically 18W or greater (up to 100W). Wattage is a simple formula of Volts × Amps. My charging block is capable of up to 25W and I wanted to test that it would indeed draw more than 18W.Usage is super easy, it's essentially "plug n play" meaning all you need to do is plug it in and turn it on (if applicable). This unit does have some settings, but I was interested in the wattage, so that's the one I had set it to display. After plugging the unit it, it instantly powered itself on and setting the display was as easy a push of a button. The one notable I have really is the display itself. It does have a blue backlit LED but this is both good and bad. It's good in the sense that if you're in a dark place, the illumination will make it easier to read; however, the opposite effect is also true in lit environments. I had the light turned on and at certain angles, it was not so easy to read (see pics). This could have been easily combatted by a button for the light, but the good news is that the backlit LED display will turn itself off after about 5 seconds. Again, there's a flipside to this, and that's if you want it to stay on because you didn't quite read the readout yet. There's not much else to this unit, it can display Volts, Amps, and Wattage, which is what I really wanted it for, so it's very functional for my needs. The controls are very simple and easy to use with its plug n play interface, and the unit feels solidly built.
