Q: Does this device convert audio as well as video?

I use to stream from my Ipad Pro 12.9 to my Samsung 48” tv and works well both video and audio. This is what This device is meant to do.

I assume by that that you mean can you watch Netflix on an external monitor connected by HDMI and the answer to that is yes. I have purchased a number of USB-C port extenders. This particular one actually works. There are a number of third-party devices that do a similar function but they are not reliable and have all failed after a while. In this case I work directly with Apple care to identify that this product was necessary in order to use my MacBook Pro to reliably create port extensions for HDMI and USB-A devices. This device also allows you to plug your USB-C power supply into one of the ports so that you can have your MacBook Pro drive an external monitor, run external USB-A device (in my case this is a wireless keyboard and mouse adapter) and be powered using only one USB-C port on your actual laptop. I have a MacBook Pro with Touch Bar 15 inch laptop with four USB- This is a great device and in my opinion is completely necessary if you need to support External Connections as I describe
