Great book with great messages
I bought this book after reading the reviews and I’m glad that I did. David duChemin puts the love of photography into beautiful written words. DuChemin covers a variety of topics such as photographing more meaningfully, the technical side of photography, how to tell a story using photography, ways of doing both candid and posed portraits, travel photography, and deeper and more meaningful photography. Throughout the book, duChemin drops gems of advice through stories and anecdotes in a way that really draws you in. He often adds the context of the photos he takes which makes the photo even more interesting and moving. DuChemin also adds his settings he used for each photo which made me pause and think about what I would have done and how I could create better photographs. I really resonated with his advice to wait for the right moment, to be fully present while photographing your scene, and the difference between taking a photo and telling a story with your photo.

Inspiring me to make better photographs
I'm only a few chapters into the book so far, but I'm really glad I bought it. I have enjoyed David DuChemin's writing for years, and I find his passion for photography - and for encouraging others to take their photography more seriously - very inspiring. This book is no exception!I'm pleased to have the physical book, not just an e-book; even seeing how the photographs are arranged on the page, or spread across the double page, gives me ideas about how to understand photos differently. This is a book that I will keep and enjoy for years to come.

A Fantastic Resource
I love this resource!! Such a go to for me! I so enjoy how he writes and takes the time to explain why but doesn't interpret the photo for us...that is for us to determine. Great teacher, instructor, and mentor. I have a couple other books he has written, and will keep adding his books to my library. This will make you think differently about what you see.

Poor handling of the book prior to shipping.
The book itself is great. However, it came with a security sticker placed right over one of the photos in the middle of the page within the book. This completely ruins that page.

Seeking vision
I am an emerging photographer and, as all photographers do, I struggle with finding my unique vision. I thought this book would help with that, but despite its promises, the text quickly deviates towards technical basics (composition, DOF) rather than truly exploring what vision is or how to cultivate it. Seems repetitive as well, as the explanations seem quite similar to other books in the same series. Not a bad book but nothing new either and definitely not what I was looking for.
